| Mysore antiquity can be tracked back to the ancient tales of the Bhagavatha and Mahabharatha, we know that the Ganga dynasty of the 2nd century ruled Mysore till 1004 A D .In the third century they established their capital at near by Talakad, The next dynasty was the Cholas, who ruled the region for about a century followed by the Chalukyas and the Hoysalas.In 1399 AD, the yadu dynasty came to power in Mysore.Part of the Vijayanagara empire, the Yadu Dynasty contributed significantly to the development of Mysore In 1610,Raja Wodeyar shifted his capital to Srirangapatana but from 1761 to 1799 their rule was interrupted by Hyder Ali and his son Tippu Sulthan.After the defeat of Tippu Sulthan in the Anglo Mysore war, power was returned, under the watchful eyes of the British, until Independence in 1947.During the enlightened Wodeyar’s rule,Mysore reached the Zenith of its glory as a fabled centre of oriental splendor, education and art. |
